Dear Kathleen,

There simply is no workable plan ?to clean the water,
provide services to the people, create an economy,
justice system,? etc. outside of a political solution
to Haiti?s problem. Otherwise our Papaye friends
would have solved the problem a long time ago ?
they?re that good, I know. Instead they are nearly
bankrupt (financially that is). I?ve learned the hard
way to differentiate between what?s principal and
what?s secondary, and right now the Lavalas
coordinated violence is what?s principal -- the equal
opportunity hooligans in and out of the slums are
purely secondary. Yes, ?rebel soldiers? are involved
in the destruction of ?vodou art in the streets of
Port-au-Prince,? and in far more serious human rights
violations ? that?s what they were trained for. But
what do you make of it? Should we bring Titid back?
It ain?t so easy, I know.

Daniel
