25878: Minsky: (info-report from the field) Dennis damage in mid-Grand Anse, Beaumont area (fwd)

From: "tminsky@ix.netcom.com" <tminsky@ix.netcom.com>

Most folks know that the Grand Goave bridge on Rte. National 2 was destroyed
by Hurricane Dennis. It's still not fixed and people have to drive through
the river.

The most damage is in a remote area (which is why most people are unaware,
and there has been no response from the government, yet.)

In Duchity which is half way between Camp Perrin and Jeremie wind which
was described like twisters (not accompanied by rain and water) destroyed
60 homes completely and 450 sustained some to great damage. At this time
many peasants homes have holes in their roofs or major sections of the tin
roofs are missing.

Countless trees-- fruit and forest trees-- were completely blown over or
unrooted, crops of vegetables, beans ,bananas, avocados were destroyed.
