I understand your comment about being 'swaf' for Haitian Creole - here in
Australia it is rare. I was treated to an experience a few years ago when I
met a woman from Martinique. We talked in Creole for about 15 min, in a
latino dance atmosphere (loud music), with no problem. I had learned that
thye use 'ni' instead of 'genyen' so I substituted that, but otherwise we
just spoke what we knew and had no problems understanding. It was great.

About 10 years ago I met someone from Mauritius - we didn't speak much
Creole together, but it seemed to me the syntax of their Creole was much
closer to French than Haitian Creole was.
