Protesters demand end to kidnappings

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Haitian politicians and business leaders rallied Monday in 
front of U.N. headquarters to press peacekeepers to bring an end to violence 
jeopardizing next month's elections.
Hundreds of Haitians have been kidnapped in a surge of pre-election violence. 
International election workers and journalists have also been taken hostage by 
gangs and hidden in the sprawling slums of the capital while ransom payments 
were negotiated.

Elections, postponed four times, have been set for Feb. 7.
