27624: Labrom: (comment) re Elections and mismanegement (fwd)

From Jacqui Labrom

Several top International Election observer officials talked about their
findings on how the election went last nite on national TV. They said,
despite some problems such as the centres opening late, lack of material
etc. they did not feel that these things seriously endangered the honest
results of the election. There was no reason to contest the election in
their opinion. In fact they held Haiti up as an example in the Latin and
South American countries of how to hold good elections.

The Director of CEP said that they had already received about 70% of the
votes at the time of the broadcast - around 7pm Haitian time, and that by
the time the broadcast was over it would be up to 80% as they had
helicopters (and presumably donkeys!!) coming in all the time with the
votes. They were going to be inputting the results as they came in on to the
website. They expected to be able to announce initial results by Friday
evening or Saturday.

You can follow the results as they come in on www.cep-ht.org
