27782: Philippe (comment): some election numbers (fwd)

From: "Philippe [utf-8] ClÃriÃ" <philippe@gcal.net>

There is not a whole lot one can do with the numbers published by
the CEP but for what it's worth, and assuming there was no
hanky-panky, here a few tidbits for gossip.

PrÃval's apparent victory is very broad. He wins in 114 _communes_
out of 140. Manigat is very far behind with 6. Jeune follows with
4. Baker, Denis and Fleurinord each get 3, while Gilles, Paul and
Philippe get 2 a piece. MÃsadieu wins only GonaÃves. Where he does
not win, PrÃval is more often than not a strong second.

Except for GonaÃves and Cayes (won by Jeune), PrÃval wins all the
larger _communes_. In particular, he gets nearly 65% of the vote in
the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area, including Croix-des-Bouquets
and Leogane. That area accounts for a little more than a third of
the vote. Manigat at second place has 13.5% and Baker, less than
5%. It also accounts for 45% of PrÃval's vote over the entire
country.

Preval's best score is in Marmelade with 94%. No surprise there.
Manigat's best score is 38.6% in Bombardopolis, with only a
thousand votes cast. Baker's best is Milot with 37%. Both Manigat
and Baker are at their worst in Marmelade (no surprise!)
respectively with 0.9% and 0.2%. Preval's worst is 7.4% in
Terre-Neuve, still in Artibonite.

Total participation based on the number of registered voters is 56%.
Reasonable but nowhere near massive.

These are based on the results published on 13 Feb.

If you think of other ways to massage the numbers, let me know.
