27992: Kondrat (comment) Re: 27972: lyall (comment) too late to do the run-off? (fwd)

from Peter Kondrat [kondr8@gamil.com]

  Mr Lyall,

Haiti's new president has at least as much electoral legitimacy as the leader
of the United States. Probably more.

On the matter of those who cheered JBA's departure two years ago: it would
be
interesting to poll those people and ask them if they are better off after two
years of the "interim" "government" than they might have been if the duly
elected president had not been forced from office.

And let's be sure to make the distinction between Aristide returning to
Haiti, which he has every right to do, and JBA returning to pouvwa, which he
apparently has no intention of doing, even if it were a constitutional
possibility, which it is not.

So, is it too late to do the run off election?
I was saying to myself that forcing thru a political solution to the screw up
in the election was not a good idea.

Preval could have told everyone to calm down, there were problems with
interference with the ballots, but the published rules need to be followed and
everyone go out and vote again in six weeks.

...

Even a blind man can see that all those people who celebrated at the
departure

of Titid two years ago and who now are voting for Preval are not asking Titid
to return to pouvwa.
