28280: Fwd: McAlister: Gina Ulysse performs at Wesleyan U (fwd)

Elizabeth McAlister <emcalister@wesleyan.edu> Writes:

I want to announce a public performance of spokenword poetry by
Professor Gina Ulysse, at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
The performance is on Wed, April 26th, 7:00 pm, in the Memorial
Chapel. All are invited, a reception will follow.

Because When God is Too Busy: Haiti, Me, & the World" is an alter(ed)native
ethno-performance of spokenword that explores issues of racism, classism and
sexism through anti-Haitianism. It exposes what it means to
confront and speak
truth to power and, in a black feminist tradition, achieve peace
through spirituality
and revolutionary self-definition. This work ultimately demands of
the audience
that they interrogate our complicity in the brutality of
anti-Haitianism. -Gina
Athena Ulysse
