#2252: Comparative crime statistics: Haiti vs. Jamaica (fwd)

From: Max Blanchet <MaxBlanchet@worldnet.att.net>

CANA just reported that 65 murders were

registered in Jamaica in the first 35 days of the

year. Projecting a bit (quite a bit!), this would

translate into 680 murders for the year 2000, or

about 26 per 100,000 inhabitants per year.

In Haiti the murder rate is about 10 per week, or

about 6.5 murders per 100,000 per year.

Or roughly, one fourth the Jamaican rate!

Furthermore, CANA reported that 1533 felons of

Jamaican nationality were deported by the US to

Jamaica last year.

Doe anyone know the corresponding figure for Haiti?
