28942: RV (comment) The Dominique case and selective memory (fwd)

From revolisyone@hotmail.com:

First John Holmstead writes "The accusations regarding the blocking of the investigation had to do with parliamentary immunity claimed by Dany Toussaint."

Confronted with the fact that is statement is false - and that the reason that a multitude of sources called Aristide to account for blocking the Dominique investigation had to do with the fact that he had stripped away all the financial and logistical support that René Préval had allotted and personally refused to renew the mandate of investigating judge Claudy Gassant - Holmstead seeks to change his tack. Holmstead (from the safety of the United States) derides Michele Montas and Claudy Gassant, stating "they aren't based in Haiti."

If Holmstead had bothered to learn his history, he would know that Michele Montas was in fact based in Haiti, heroically keeping open Radio Haiti-Inter, until an attempt on her life on Christmas Day 2002 sent her into exile in the United States (in early March 2003). She was very much based in Haiti when she made the comments (https://listhost.uchicago.edu/pipermail/haiti-news/2006-April/001457.html) that Holmstead still tries to ignore. Likewise, Claudy Gassant was based in Haiti, despite the Aristide government's peeling away of his security and operational funds, until January 2002, enduring among other obstacles armed threats from the Lavalas deputy Millien Rommage. If a recent Radio Kiskeya report is accurate, Gassant has now returned to Haiti to become the chief of the Parquet du Tribunal Civil.

John Holmstead then opines that "This still does not answer why all those who accused Aristide of ordering Touissaint to kill Dominique remained silent," refusing to present any evidence where Montas or RSF stated that Aristide ordered Dany Toussaint to kill Dominique. As to remaining silent:, in its 3 March 2004 dispatch "The Release of a Suspected Assassin" NCHR denounces the troubling role played by Senator Dany Toussaint" (http://www.rnddh.org/article.php3?id_article=149), the human rights organization wrote that "By way of his intervention, Senator Toussaint had Franco CAMILLE (alias Franco Cadavre), released from custody, without any due process or formal procedure. Camille had just been arrested for possession of weapons of war, including an M1 and an M14." The Camille brothers (Franco and the deceased Ronald) were for many years rumored to be linked to the Dominique murder.

In a 2004 interview with Radio Vision 2000 (http://haitipolicy.org/content/2202.htm), the former Lavalas gang leader Labanye stated the following:

"The person who killed Dominique works at the (Aristide) National Palace. It is Deputy Mayor Harold Severe, former mayor of Port-au-Prince. On the day of Dominique's murder, that is, on 3 April 2000, Severe contacted So Anne; she contacted the ones nicknamed Cadavre, that is, Franco and Ronald Camille. He told them that they had to do something for him. He gave them a Daihatsu Charade, beige color, and the Cadavre brothers contacted the Kosovo gang leader, who was based in Portail Leogane. His name is Guy Benson, also known as Ti Ponyet. They gave him a Daihatsu Charade so he could carry out the mission. Then, the Cadavres (Camilles) promised him that after the mission they would give him $60,000. After the mission, Benson went down the Delmas Road so that he could get the money from the Cadavres. But they did not even wait for him to say a word. The Cadavres killed him, so he did not have an opportunity to talk about the action."

Many familiar with the case state quite plainly that Aristide personally ordered Minister of Justice Calixte Delatour to instruct Judge Bernard Sainvil to remove Harold Severe’s name from the March 2003 indictment in the Dominique killing, where it originally appeared.

The circle closes.
