28959: Sprague (Reply) re 28933: Dailey re 28908 John Holmstead (fwd)

 From Sprague <Jebsprague@mac.com>

Daily writes in 28933 that "Ann Auguste had the charges against her
dropped. So did Louis-Jodel Chamblain. All this proves is that the
Haitian judicial system is easy to manipulate, something we knew
already."

Comparing the failure of justice in the Louis-Jodel Chamblain case to
the dropping of charges against folk singer and organizer Ann
Auguste is absurd. Chamblain's crimes are well documented, beyond a
doubt, while Auguste was charged with numerous crimes that were
backed up by no credible evidence on decidedly political grounds,
which included crushing a baby with a mortar and pestle so Aristide
could "drink its blood".

At http://www.zmag.org/ZMagSite/Dec2005/podur1205.html Justin Podur
writes:

"Auguste has faced a gauntlet of charges. First, the Marines charged
her with colluding with Muslims in a local mosque to attack them.
When the absence of a mosque in Auguste’s neighborhood cast some
doubt on this accusation, they tried to charge her with attacking the
anti-Aristide opposition in September 2003. She was in the hospital
at the time. Next they produced an eyewitness stating that Auguste
had ground a baby with a mortar and pestle in order that Aristide
could drink the baby’s blood. The eyewitness provided the phone
number from which she said Auguste called her for the ritual—even
though this wasn’t her number until months after the ritual
supposedly took place. This is the one “charge” for which there is a
“witness” so even though that witness is apparently now in France and
has not been heard from in some time, that’s the charge they are
sticking with."

Below I have pasted the lyrics of So Anne's "Rezistans". Maybe
Hotel Oloffson can invite her to perform?

Chante / Lyrics to

  "Rezistans"

Rezistans o rezistans o nou se yon pèp ki genyen rezistans (4x)

Nou pase trant sezon doulè, nou pran nan toubiyon malè
Nou panche men nou pa tonbe, nou se yon pèp ki genyen rezistans
Nou pase jounen san manje, nou travèse dezè a pie
Nou fè nuit san n pa fèmen je n, nou se yon pèp ki genyen rezistans

Rezistans o rezistans o nou se yon pèp ki genyen rezistans (4x)
Rezistans, rezistans, rezistans, rezistans, rezistans, rezistans,
rezistans (2x)

Chorus
Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance
Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance
Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance
Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance

We have endured 30 seasons of pain
We are trapped in a tornado of danger
We are bent/stumbled but have not broken/fallen
We are a people who have resistance
We spent days without food
We crossed the desert on foot
We spent nights without closing our eyes
We are a people with resistance

Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance
Resistance o resistance o we are a people who have resistance
Resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance
Resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance, resistance

We have learned to walk under ground
Hold our breath under the sea
Defend ourselves against evil spirits
We are a people who have resistance
They have stepped on us but can't squash us
They have shewed/moistened us but can't swallow us
We are hard as a rock
We are a people with resistance

Chorus

They have made us know the way to jail
Shut us in concentration camps
But we have not lost our objective
We are a people who have resistance
Slavery or occupation nothing has eliminated us
We have escaped under all maneuvers
We are a people who have resistance

Chorus

We went to hell even though we are not dead
We came butted head with Lucifer
We told him we believe in paradise
We are a people who have resistance
We have endured 30 seasons of pain
We have been taken by tornado of danger
We are bent but have not fallen
We are a people who have resistance

Chorus
