Most of the time the use of the name Hispaniola refers to the whole island,
they mean the Dominican Republic and Haiti together. There is a movement in
Haiti lead by Odette Roy Fombrun to ask the media to stop calling the island
Hispaniola and to use the name Quisqueya instead. Hispaniola being the
colonial name that Columbus gave the island, and Quisqueya being one of the original
names given by the Arawak indians.
