HAITIAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY SELECTS FERDINAND (FREDDY) ZIZI
AS ITS CANDIDATE TO RUN IN THE SPECIAL ELECTION FOR
THE 40TH DISTRICT COUNCIL IN BROOKLYN

Hoping to make history, organizational leaders in the Haitian-American community have selected Mr. Ferdinand (Freddy) Zizi to run in the special election in early 2007 to replace the outgoing Councilwoman Yvette Clarke, who has been elected to Congress.

Freddy Zizi is the son of the late Reverend Zizi, a Baptist minister, and sister Zizi, a deaconess at one of the oldest and largest Haitian Baptist churches in Brooklyn, N.Y. He resides in the 40th Council District in Brooklyn, and currently works as a research consultant for SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, addressing health disparities in the borough. Over the years, he has offered training to minority scientists and students, cultural competency workshops to healthcare providers, and community health education to improve the health and quality of life of Brooklyn minorities.

Freddy Zizi was selected among six talented, highly educated and qualified candidates. The vote to select Freddy Zizi was carried in a most democratic and fair process. The Haitian-American Council Steering Committee is confident that Mr. Ferdinand (Freddy) Zizi has all the qualities and necessary skills to effectively represent the interest of the 40th Council District community at the New York City Council. Time has come for the New York City Council to include the voice and participation of a Caribbean of Haitian descent.

This historic move came after two months of intensive and grueling hours of work by a team of 21 community members in fields as diverse as clergy, education, business, law, medicine, media, law enforcement, and more. This is a manifestation of years of preparation and political maturity garnered by the community over time. As the committee further enlarges its scope of work, it will contribute in helping Freddy Zizi to raise funds for his campaign and to accompany him at rallies and meetings with people in the community. Other endeavors of the committee will be to increase membership, to conduct voter education, and to seek and support future potential candidates for prospective openings in the New York political arena.

The Haitian-American Council Steering Committee will hold a press conference to make an official announcement to the New York community.

I would need the essay in text form. What you sent me came as an attachment and I don't post any attachments.
