In Haiti, reports of abuses against women have been continually on the rise, reflecting the strong correlation between political turmoil and sexual and gender based violence. V-Day, founded by playwright and activist Eve Ensler, is a non-profit seeking to end violence against women worldwide In 2006, V-Day took place in over 1,100 venues around the world, reaching over 600,000 audience members. While V-Day has reached 20 countries—from the USA to China—it has never been performed in Haiti. The Vagina Monologues will be performed in New York City on March 17th to benefit Dwa Fanm and in Haiti on April 3rd.
