29885: Sontaine (comment) Correcting AHP article (fwd)

From Georges Sontaine:

Potojeb's posting of the recent AHP article "Former Prime Minister Yvon Neptune denounces..." contains the following statement:

"Allegations from NCHR/Haiti (RNDDH) that he ordered a supposed massacre in La Scierie (Saint-Marc) were rejected by all serious human rights organizations, including CARLI, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. "

This is a lie. Human Rights Watch conducted an extensive investigation into the massacre of Saint Marc. The group never issued any statement regarding Mr. Neptune's potential guilt or innocence. In fact, in the the release "Haiti: Events of 2006" Human Rights Watch writes the following:

"Accountability for past abuses remains out of reach. While the release of Neptune and Privert may have been warranted given the state's failure to properly try them, the La Scierie case was never fully investigated and the atrocities that the two men allegedly committed remain unpunished."

The release can be read here:

Apparently some folks never get tired of just making stuff up.

Georges
