Madame Nerva of Jacmel has passed away. The funeral will be at the end of June 
(exact date to be announced).
I first met Madame Nerva, through my mother, in the late 1980's. They were 
organizing ceremonies in Washington D.C. in a program sponsored by the 
Smithsonian Institute. So many people became possessed that they had to put an 
ambulance and a medic on hand in case it was actually the heat that was 
making people writhe around on the ground. Madame Nerva and representatives 
from her peristyle eventually toured Europe and visited the 
cell where Toussaint Lourverture was held in captivity.
Her greatest attributes were her spirituality and her love and support of the 
poor and the children of the poor.
