Haitians are extremely reluctant to discuss politics with  anyone knowing
that it might cost them their lives as they havelearned  under Duvalier. Most 
of
them, including those residing  abroad are very shy when it comes to
expressing thoughts in  writing, dismissing the validity of their own opinions 
in the
process.
In many ways, they are a very passive people and It's a great shame. I  ran a
newsletter for the Haitian community in California for a couple of years,
and I had the toughest time getting anyone to participate openly. They read  it
and enjoyed it, but had nothing to contribute in any way shape or  form.
