30863: Minsky:RE: 30853: (news) Two Americans detained in Port au Prince (fwd)

I visited Lisa who has been in the Women's Jail in Petionville for 10 days.
The jail has 250 women, but she is in the "infirmary cell" which has 3
women in it..

She thinks she will go before somone soon who can decide, or decide to
"think about it" for a couple months or whatever...

The skulls were in her boyfriend's bags, but as she was waiting with him
when he was detained she was arrested too.

Both she and her boyfriend are in their mid-thirties...first time in Haiti
to be initiated into vodou--their "intiating guide" believes there is a
warrant out has left the country.

Her parents send money so food can be brought in. Although the prison does
provide some food, it didn't agree with her system...and she got sick.

All things considered she seems in pretty good spirits, although she hasn't
a clue how long she'll be there. Most of the women are in for 10 years.
She said one woman was just released after 3 years, having never been
charged with anything.

She would like visitors. The women's jail is just to the left of the main
police station in Petionville. Bring her a bottle of water, and she'd
appreciate some fruit.
