6476: Re: 6441: Haiti Celebrates Christmas (fwd)

From: Sabine Albert <sabinea@yahoo.com>

what would make a person try so hard to write such a
dismal story.

I know that bleak writings from journalists on Haiti
is nothing new to this list but this article is by far
the most taxing exercise in painting the worst picture
possible.

Granted Petioville is not the Hamptons or Beverly
Hills but I never saw it described as a
"a suburb where
> many live in squatter settlements on the slopes of
> gullies."

and I never heard of fireworks being set off to "scare
off evil spirits".

Has anyone else ever heard this reasoning or is this
reporter reaching for the superstition angle?
