INQUIRY INTO DOMINIQUE'S ASSASSINATION BLOCKED
Translated by Max Blanchet

Judge Gassant, who is investigating Dominique's assassination, has
threatened to resign if the GOH fails to reinforce his security and to
give him the means with which to do his job.

This contradicts the claims of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Garry
Lissade, who keeps on claiming that the judicial authorities have
put at the judge's disposal all the resources requested for the
investigation into the assassination of the President/Director of
Radio Haiti Inter.

The Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH in French), a delegation
of which visited Judge Gassant on May 14, has concluded that the
judge did not have transportation means or police officers at his
disposal.

"We cannot understand that government authorities would lie so
blatantly." This is the reaction of Pierre Espérance of the National
Coalition for Haitian Rights (NCHR.) The Lavalas government is not
showing any sign that it has the will to see the inquiry into the
murder of April 3 2000, through.

The Haitian Platform of Human Rights Organization does not
understand the attitude of the Lavalas authorities either . Its
coordinator, Serge Bordenave, is surprised to see that such an
important inquiry -- whose results the whole population is waiting for --
is running into such difficulties.

In a letter sent to President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Reporters
Without Borders expressed last week its preoccupation regarding
the blocking of the investigation and has asked the President to use
his influence to insure that the inquiry is carried out in a proper manner.
