9049: 9046: 9020: bamboo:braking and breaking the charcoal cycle in Haiti (fwd)

From: JHUDICOURTB@aol.com

Bamboo is used for fires in the South in Haiti. There is a lot of bamboo
around the Grande Anse river which goes from the mountains to the coastal
town of Jeremie. On market days people up river make bamboo rafts (called
pipirit) to take their merchandise to the markets of Chambellan, Moron,
Jeremie. They never take the rafts back up the river. They walk back. They
sell the bamboo rafts at the market to be used for construction, baskets, or
fuel.
