a1988: U.S. Trade With Haiti 1996-2002 (fwd)

I only briefly skimmed this data, but so far this year, it looks like the U.S. has
imported more "Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles" from Haiti than it has exported
to Haiti. Looks like it's been pretty much the same since at least 1996, though
there was a marked jump in "Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles" imports beginning in
1997. I wonder what exactly comprised "Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles".
Beverages and tobacco increased from 1996 to 1997 and have remained up. I wonder
what, exactly, is included in "beverages" and what percent of this sum was tobacco.
The total food and live animals exported to Haiti fell in 2000 and has remained
down. Does that mean that Haiti's self-sufficiency has increased, or does it simply
reflect a decreased purchasing power?
Mineral Fuels, Lubricants and Related Materials made a big fall between 1996 and
1997, and then a fairly big jump again between 1998 and 1999.
Alot could be drawn from this import/export data. It would be interesting for a
political economist to interpret the trends in the data as a whole.
