19939: Nealy: RE: 19932: Antoine: Re: 19908: US to pay Haitian Coast Guard to curb refugees (fwd)

From: David Nealy <dlnealy@msn.com>

Dear M. Antoine,

Come on Guy, When did hundreds or thousands of Europeans leave their shores
in thoroughly overloaded, flimsy sailboats to try to emigrate to the US? At
least some of this move by the US coast guard is to avoid the recent
scenarios of overturned boats and drowned Haitians en masse, by discouraging
the people from undertaking that foolish journey. Especially when there are
plenty of "entrepreneurs" who offer to take one's life's savings in return
for a promise to take you to America, and then load you into one of those
boats.

A better solution, it seems to me, is to stay and work and fight toward
peace, tolerance, compromise, and stability in one's country, as
discouraging as that seems now.

David
