I don't much consider myself an economist but...
Minimum wage in the U.S. will get you two gallons of gasoline plus  change 
during your first hour of work. Minimum wage in Haiti won't get you  a gallon 
of

gasoline even after two days of work.
Would it be possible to remove gas and oil from the economic equation in  
Haiti, and if so, how? Is it possible to go <green>. Solar? Wind? Are 
there 
forms of transportation that don't involve gas, or would it be better to  raise

the minimum wage tenfold to create a better consumer balance.  More cars in 
Port-au-Prince, now there's a wonderful thought.
