From Daniel Simidor

Dear Sprague,

Mario Pierre is the New York-based Batay Ouvriye
solidarity activist you tried to disparage in your
first article as a low level drone. In all the years
I?ve known him, he has never claimed to speak
officially for Batay Ouvriye. You cannot now
convincingly hide behind his back your failure to
reach out to Batay Ouvriye before dragging their good
name in the mud. Nor can you blame them after that
stunt for not talking to you.

Another point: partial disclosure is worse than no
disclosure at all. For one thing, there is more to
say about your funding sources than holding a full
time job or working on your thesis. Maybe you didn?t
get money from presumably dirt poor Haiti-Progres, but
how about money received in connection with
Haiti-Progres? Or how about the prestigious
Washington think-tank that got you started on that
peculiar line of research last summer?

As I wrote in a previous post on this very list, until
you do the honest work of scrolling down those funding
columns to uncover the millions Aristide and his front
organizations (Bo Tab La, Lafanmi Selavi, Aristide
Foundation for Democracy, Fondasyon 30 Septanm, Fanmi
Lavalas, etc.) collected from the Clinton
administration, NED and the National Democratic
Institute between 1994 and 2000, your ?independent
research? into ?foreign funding in Haiti? fails
miserably at bringing out both sides of the story, and
leaves you looking like ?a stoolpigeon whose main
contribution in this case was in fingering and
endangering the lives of key activists on the Haitian
left.?
