APRIL CREOLE FEST POSTPONED UNTIL 2007

A tumultuous hurricane season last year has forced the postponement of the 2006 International Creole Fest scheduled this month until next year.

ACTION Foundation, the South Florida cultural arts organization that founded the event last year, will hold its second International Creole Fest in April 2007.

Creole is a language and culture born from the blending of European, African, Indian, Amerindian and Asian cultures that started during days of colonization.

Organizers say some 400,000 people who are part of the French Creole culture live in South Florida. Many of them have Haitian roots.

The organization will host a literary series on the African Diaspora and Creole Cultures at 6 p.m. May 19 at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

A concert with Jan Sebon & KAZAK, a South Florida group, will follow.

The event is free. Call 954-274-9978 for more information.
