A Haitian celebration

The start of Haitian Cultural Heritage Month will be commemorated with an event 
at 11 a.m. Monday at Village Hall, 500 NW 87th St.

The event kicks off Miami-Dade's celebration of Haitian Cultural Heritage 
Month, and will feature the unveiling of a commemorative poster. There will be 
complimentary food and drinks.

It will mark the first time El Portal has hosted the event, which was 
previously held at the office of the Miami-Dade mayor.

''I think it's a good opportunity to celebrate the Haitian culture just like 
Hispanics and African Americans do with their months,'' said the Village Mayor, 
Marriette SaintVil, who was born in Haiti.

The event is open to the public; RSVP required. To attend, call Carol Aubrun, 
assistant village manager, at 305-795-7880 by Friday.
