30,000 messages ---- Corbett (list note) Another milestone of posts

The list has reached another milestone -- 30,000 messages posted via the Webster University server. It was on June 24, 1999 that I moved the list to the Webster server. It was also at that time that I began to number the posts.

The list began in June 1994 with just 7 people. It was then I ceased publishing a 40 page hard copy quarterly journal about Haiti called STRETCH.

In the early days I didn't have a regular list serve, just my own mailing list, but the first server crl.com (now out of business) stopped me from having more than 500 people on a single list, so before long I had two lists. Finally they asked me to stop the list altogether.

I moved to netcom.com and ran the list there until June of 1999. netcom also had a 500 person limit on personal lists, so I had four of them which meant in those days I had to send out each post four times.

I have no idea how many notes were published in those five years before moving to the Webster server, but the list was as active as it is now.

It was such a relief moving to Webster U's server in 1999 and using a regular list-serve with its own majordomo. The webmaster at Webster U even posted the first 12,226 notes and that archive is on my web page.

However, the nearly 18,000 since then are not available for public use (nor even my own) though they are archied at Webster U. I do hope some day the webmaster will post them and make them available via my web page.

I do not have access to the list itself. That's for security reasons. And the list does not have any names, just e-mail addresses. I don't even know how many people are on the list, but it is a whole lot!

Now we move into the 30,000s of notes posted on the Webster server. Let's keep talking to each other.
