OAS chief appoints special representative in Haiti
Washington, CANA - Secretary General of the Organisation of 
American States (OAS), Cesar Gaviria is appointing Ambassador 
Sergio Romero Cuevas of Mexico as his special representative in 
Haiti. The OAS said in a release yesterday that Ambassador Romero, 
a career diplomat with the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, 
has served as his country's Ambassador to Haiti, Nicaragua, and 
Paraguay. His appointment will be effective from July 1, 2001. 
"Fluent in French and English as well as in Spanish, Ambassador 
Romero will be responsible for overseeing the totality of the OAS' 
engagement in that country," the OAS said.
